Backflip on Botox….

Why This Skin Therapist Is Skipping the Syringe

Let’s get one thing clear. At Glo Younger, I’m not in the business of shaming your choices. Want the needle? Go for it. Want to glow up the holistic way? Welcome to your skin sanctuary. Because at the end of the day it’s your body, your journey, your rules.

But you know I’ve got opinions. And when new research starts spilling the tea on Botox and its long-term effects, I listen. Not to scare you, but to keep it real, informed and always rooted in love. So let’s talk about what the science is whispering and why I’ve personally chosen to stay away from the syringe.

What’s the deal with “Preventative Botox”?

Preventative Botox is sold as the solution to stop wrinkles before they even show. Often encouraged in your 20s and 30s, the logic goes: freeze the muscle before it creates an expression line. But newer evidence suggests long-term use might not be as wrinkle-defying as promised.

What the research is revealing

1. Muscle Atrophy is Real

A study in The Journal of Neural Transmission (2008) found long-term Botox use may cause muscle wasting in treated areas. Basically, the muscles can weaken over time. Not ideal when we rely on strong muscle tone for lifted, youthful skin.

2. Wrinkle Migration is a Thing

A 2021 review in Toxins (Basel) revealed that muscles surrounding the injection site often pick up the slack. Cue unexpected fine lines in strange places. Freeze one area and the rest may overcompensate.

3. Thinner Skin Over Time

Long-term use has been linked to skin thinning and laxity, especially with heavy or continuous use. That taut, frozen look might age you faster in the end.

4. Emotional Flatlining

Facial expressions don’t just show how we feel, they help us feel it. Studies in Emotions (APA) suggest Botox may reduce emotional intensity by limiting facial feedback. And personally, I want to feel it all. Life’s too rich to numb the good stuff.

Why I say “no thanks” to the syringe

This choice is deeply personal. I’ve never had Botox. And my biggest reason? My health journey.

I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and endometriosis. Early on, I tried porcine thyroid extract, a compounded medicine as prescribed by my GP. When my dose was increased, it left me bedridden. Exhausted. Wiped out. Riddled with PAIN. That experience was the wake-up call that led me to take charge of my healing.

I chose lifestyle changes over medication. Daily habits, nourishing food, self-care rituals and mindful choices… all the things I now preach and practise. My Hashimoto’s? In remission. That’s why I’m super selective about what I put in or on my body. For me, injectables don’t align.

Support the body to support the skin

At Glo Younger, we don’t freeze. We activate. We lift. We sculpt. We treat the skin with respect and work with the body, not against it. My approach is gentle, nurturing and deeply effective. Think microcurrent, LED, peels, massage and spicules. Not syringes.

Real results come from supporting the whole self, not shutting parts of it down.

Zero judgement, all love

If injectables work for you, fabulous. This isn’t a guilt trip. But if you’re looking for an alternative or you’ve got questions… I’ve got you.

My promise? To keep it real, keep it kind and help you fall back in love with your skin. No needles required.

With radiant love,

Renae
